Woofstock 2008

On August 3rd 2008 in Tacoma, Washington dogs, cats, rabbits, fancy rats and ferrets got together for a fun day. Oh, and of course people were there too. Why? It was a gathering of many different rescue organizations hoping to get many of their pets adopted. And were they? 102 adoptions were made! Congratulations to all those lucky pets with new forever homes! And a special Thank You to the Dugan Foundation who sponsored this event.

Many of the organizations walked around with their prospective adoptees with jackets on them that said, "Adopt me". There was even a ferret on a leash walking and hopping around. Now that was cute! And yes, it certainly had the attention of all the dogs.

So how did Muttshack fit in at this celebration? We were there to spread the word about the alliance we have as part of Pierce County Animal Response Team. David Friedman strolled around the rescue organizations’ booths to stalk about this new Team. Our goal is to have as many of the rescue organizations in Pierce county come together and create an animal rescue plan where all the organizations know what their part will be in the event of a disaster partnering with Pierce County. Some could be temporary shelters to pets or other animals. Some could be the organizations who get and deliver supplies to those shelters. Some could also be part of the actual rescuers who go out and rescue the animals in need.

The Dugan Foundation took good care of everyone. They had the location marked out so everyone knew where they were to be. They had snacks and water available for the volunteers as well as food offered for a modest price for the visitors and volunteers alike. Ok, some of the food may have reached those little snouts that had the beautiful sad eyes to go with them. Electric carts were also there to help get supplies from the parking lots to the venues. Many volunteers walked around all day asking if we needed anything or any help doing something. And someone in the Dugan Foundation must have had a line directly to the weather as it was a fabulous day for all.

Congratulations to all those lucky pets with new forever homes.
